When you get an contact, either air, surface or sub-surface, its first unknown yellow, once its identified it can turn into friendly, neutral or hostile, at this point you can right click the unit icon and select "Filter-out" from the dialog.
At this time I am not sure if these units stay filtered out forever, or if you lose the contact and regain it later will the filter-out be remembered or do you have to do it all over again.
Dimitris posted in steamshit community forum: Filtering out a contact removes all visual info about it (uncertainty area, emissions, datablock etc.) and leaves only the contact icon, significantly de-cluttering the display. Please read the manual addendum pages: warfaresims.com/?page_id=2695.
